The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Relationship.

Consider this a test for long-term couples who are fans of the horror genre: Get comfortable with your loved one and stream Together. This independent film success of 2025 recently had its streaming debut on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it could look like conventional biological terror, but inside Together resides a deep meditation about our choices in loving our partners.

A Directorial Debut Investigating The Nuances of Love

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for ten years. Having wed in actuality in 2017, the actors bring a special spark to their roles, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The plot commences when Tim and Millie transition from the urban environment to the country for her career. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, of course, but that’s largely where the conventions cease. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the couple's dynamic as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their country house, a storm hits, and the two discover an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity takes hold of the couple. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding simple connection.

The complete narrative is a slow burn of scares, weaving in moments of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but never too gross) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes during something grotesque). The director orchestrates these parts neatly and delivers them in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is only the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a emotional and physical gap. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve left the city and removed from his social circle. He fears the notion of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for getting around.

Shanks’ smartest move is that he refrains from painting either of his characters the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie face the sort of issues that are inherent in most partnerships a decade in. Fundamentally, they still love each other. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent undercurrent of doubt about their future together.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these anxieties of codependency and fully committing to another person, the symbolism avoids being clumsy or pretentious. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the supernatural and the personal enhance each other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that single viewers have understood the narrative as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. On the other hand, some couples who were in conflict found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could potentially serve as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your partner and state, “I’d do that for you”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an experiment you can undertake right now.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
